Monkey High

Those who knows me know that I prefer shounen over Shoujo manga. 90% of the time I stop reading the series before it's over. But Monkey High is one of those exceptions. I like this shoujo manga. First, unlike most manga where the heroine fall for the "popular" alpha hero, she choose the one boy every girl can't seem to imagine why. But of course the hero is still liked by other characters. I adore him. He's cheerful and easy going but could occasionally get serious.

I like how relax the story go but still keep on the edge of my seat. What I hate most with shoujo demographic manga, is that the likable female heroine become a indecisive annoying female character once she face a challenge. Especially if she gets stuck between two boys...

but the heroine, Haruna, is likeable from start to finish.

I have nothing to complain at all. Haruna bothered me a bit when she was confessed by Atsu, but it instantly clear when she didn't wavered about her feeling for Matcharu

And Macharu is just adorable from the first volume to the last. He acts so innocence and can be such a kid but then he clearly shows that he's a man when he needed to be. I love how he stand up to Haruna's father and how confident he is even when everyone else try to degrade him.

This manga is worth reading again.

Blurb

After her political father is disgraced in scandal, Haruna Aizawa transfers to a new school...

Haruna Aizawa thinks that school life is just like a monkey mountain - all the monkeys form cliques, get into fights, and get back together again. The school that she just transferred to is no exception. There's even a boy called Macharu(baby monkey) Yamashita actually named Masaru Yamashita ] who reminds her of a baby monkey!

It's hard enough fitting in at a new school while dealing with family problems.... Will Haruna remain jaded and distance herself from everyone around her? Or will Macharu win her over with his monkey magic?
